Bio
Recruited as a towering teenage prospect from Glenelg, Wayne Thornborrow was originally selected by St Kilda in the 1989 National Draft but opted to remain in South Australia to develop his game before eventually heading to Moorabbin. Standing at 198cm, he finally made his AFL debut in 1994, operating as a key forward and relief ruckman who offered a strong marking target in attack. Despite showing glimpses of potential and booting 10 goals across his 13 senior appearances, he struggled to command a permanent spot in the Saints' best 22. His time at the elite level is perhaps best remembered for the trade that facilitated his exit, as he was swapped to Richmond in exchange for Jamie Elliott ahead of the 1996 season. Thornborrow was unable to break into the Tigers' senior lineup and eventually returned to the SANFL without adding to his AFL game tally.
