Bio
Originally from Fish Creek in Victoria, Wayne Weidemann spent the 1986 season on St Kilda's list without registering a senior game before establishing himself in the SANFL with West Torrens. Recruited by the Adelaide Crows for their inaugural 1991 squad, the mature-age recruit became an instant cult hero at Football Park, instantly recognisable by his flowing blonde hair and Viking-like physique. A rugged, contested-ball winner who attacked the contest with ferocity, Weidemann famously inspired a low-pitched chant of his surname from the crowd whenever he gained possession. While chronic knee injuries ultimately limited his longevity at the top level, his physical presence and rapport with the fans made him one of the most memorable figures of Adelaide's foundation years.
