Bio
A ruckman recruited from West Torrens in the SANFL, Wilbur Harris arrived at the Lake Oval as part of South Melbourne's famous "Foreign Legion" of interstate imports during the 1930s. Despite his height and talent, he initially struggled to cement a regular spot in a star-studded lineup that featured legends like Bob Pratt and Laurie Nash, managing just three senior appearances during the club's 1933 premiership campaign. He eventually carved out a niche as a serviceable follower and was selected as the 19th man for the 1934 Grand Final loss to Richmond. Harris enjoyed his best individual season in 1937 when he became a fixture in the side and booted 12 goals, and although he was briefly cleared to VFA club Williamstown in 1941, he never played a game for the Seagulls, instead returning to South Melbourne to close out his career.
