Bio
Recruited from Norwood with pick 20 in the 2002 National Draft, Will Minson evolved from a raw, physical prospect into one of the competition's most dominant ruckmen during his peak. An imposing figure at stoppages, Minson relied on brute strength and superior tap work rather than athletic mobility, often physically intimidating opponents in the contest. His career trajectory was defined by patience; after serving a long apprenticeship under Luke Darcy and sharing duties with Ben Hudson, he produced a standout 2013 campaign where he earned All-Australian selection and became arguably the most effective pure ruckman in the league.
Despite these individual accolades, the game's evolution toward more mobile, utility-style ruckmen eventually worked against him. In his final seasons under Luke Beveridge, Minson struggled to retain his spot in the senior side, eventually falling behind Jordan Roughead and Tom Boyd in the pecking order. While he missed out on selection for the Bulldogs' historic 2016 AFL premiership, Minson remained a dedicated clubman to the end, retiring as a life member after captaining Footscray to a VFL flag in his final match.
