Bio
Recruited with the high expectations attached to pick 3 in the 2020 National Draft, Will Phillips arrived at North Melbourne as a highly touted inside midfielder from the Oakleigh Chargers. His early development was severely disrupted by a debilitating bout of glandular fever which erased his entire 2022 season, setting him back significantly in terms of conditioning and match continuity. Upon his return, Phillips found it difficult to command a permanent spot in the Kangaroos' rebuilding engine room, often finding himself squeezed out by the rapid emergence of younger talent such as Harry Sheezel and George Wardlaw. Known for his clean hands and contested ball-winning ability but often scrutinized for his disposal impact, he was periodically reinvented as a run-with player in an attempt to utilise his discipline against opposition stars. Despite reaching the 50-game milestone, Phillips ultimately struggled to cement a defined role within the club's long-term plans, concluding his five-season tenure at Arden Street at the end of 2025.
