Originally drafted by Port Adelaide as a rookie, Will Snelling managed only one senior appearance in three seasons despite captaining the Magpies at SANFL level. Following his delisting, a dominant return to state league football with West Adelaide saw him handed a second lifeline by Essendon in the 2019 mid-season draft. At Tullamarine, Snelling successfully reinvented himself as a high-pressure small forward, becoming a fixture in the side valued for his elite tackling pressure and defensive work rate inside 50. His perseverance culminated in a podium finish in the 2021 Crichton Medal, though recurring injuries hampered his final two seasons, eventually leading to his delisting at the conclusion of the 2023 season.
