Bio
Taken by Richmond with the 13th selection in the 2004 National Draft, Will Thursfield established himself as a disciplined key defender capable of locking down the opposition's most dangerous tall forwards. A Rising Star nomination in 2006 highlighted his potential as a long-term pillar of the Tigers' defence, utilising a spoil-first mentality and close-checking style rather than offensive rebound. Despite his reliability when on the park, Thursfield's time at Punt Road was heavily restricted by persistent injuries that prevented him from building consistent momentum. After battling through several interrupted campaigns, he announced a premature retirement at the conclusion of the 2011 season aged just 25, citing the physical toll on his body.
