Bio
Recruited from Drysdale on the Bellarine Peninsula, Willie Hines was a local forward who played a cameo role for Geelong during the 1903 VFL season. He made a promising start to his career by booting a goal on debut against St Kilda at the Junction Oval and maintained a respectable strike rate with five majors from his seven senior appearances. Despite demonstrating a handy knack for finding the goals, Hines was unable to cement a regular spot in a strong Pivotonians lineup that went on to reach the semi-finals that year. His time at the elite level was limited to that solitary winter, leaving him as one of many local talents from the era who stepped up for a brief but effective stint before returning to district football.
