Bio
Recruited from Williamstown Presbyterians, Wylie Chambers broke into the South Melbourne side as a fresh-faced 17-year-old in 1946. After showing early promise, he found himself stuck in the reserves the following season and requested a transfer to the VFA, but the club refused to clear him. The decision paid off as Chambers re-established himself as a consistent performer, eventually settling into a key role as a reliable full-back and utility who played regular senior football between 1948 and 1950. After crossing to Oakleigh, his career and life were tragically cut short at the age of 24 when he died after falling ill while serving as a constable with the Victoria Police.
