Bio
Recruited by Sydney with pick 15 in the 2013 National Draft, Zak Jones entered the system with a reputation for toughness as the younger brother of Melbourne stalwart Nathan Jones. He initially established himself as a dashing defender for the Swans, using his blistering speed and aggressive attack on the contest to break lines and rebound from the back half. A member of the Swans' 2016 Grand Final side, Jones developed into a damaging utility who could pinch-hit in the middle, but he eventually sought a permanent midfield role and a return to Victoria, requesting a trade to St Kilda at the end of the 2019 season.
Upon arriving at Moorabbin, Jones immediately injected much-needed pace and hardness into the Saints' engine room, playing a pivotal role in the club's return to finals action in 2020. However, his time at St Kilda was frequently interrupted by a series of soft-tissue injuries and personal leave, which prevented him from consistently stringing seasons together. Despite these setbacks, he remained a high-impact player when fit, known for his ability to accelerate away from stoppages and physically impose himself on the opposition before his tenure with the Saints concluded in 2025.
