Bio
Born in Footscray but forged on the Gold Coast, Zane Taylor was a tough, versatile utility who became a Queensland football icon surrounding a four-year stint at Geelong. After starring for Southport in the QAFL, Taylor was recruited to Kardinia Park as a 23-year-old mature-age prospect, bringing a reputation as a fierce competitor. His VFL career began with immediate controversy when he was suspended for striking in his debut, but he returned to become a valuable contributor across half-back and the midfield, featuring in Geelong's 1980 and 1981 Preliminary Final campaigns. Despite his ability to perform on the big stage, Taylor battled to hold a permanent spot in a star-studded Cats lineup, often dominating at the lower level where he played in three consecutive reserves premierships. He eventually returned north to cement his legacy, retiring as the record holder for Queensland state appearances and earning selection in the Queensland Team of the Century.
