Family

Recruited from Eltham, Peter Moore established himself as the prototype for the modern athletic ruckman during a celebrated but turbulent era for Collingwood. Unlike the stationary rucks of previous generations, Moore was agile, dominant overhead, and dangerous near goal, allowing him to impact contests like an extra midfielder. He became a pivotal figure in the Tom Hafey-led sides that contested five Grand Finals between 1977 and 1981, though he famously endured the heartbreak of finishing runner-up on every occasion. Despite the team's ultimate lack of silverware, his individual dominance was undeniable, culminating in his first Brownlow Medal in 1979.

Following the 1982 season, Moore requested a clearance to Melbourne, a move precipitated by the internal political instability and "New Magpies" factionalism at Victoria Park. The change of scenery proved immediately fruitful as he captured a second Brownlow Medal in 1984, joining an exclusive group of players to win the award at two different clubs. Although chronic hamstring issues limited his output in his final seasons, Moore remains a revered figure in the game's history, a legacy further cemented by his son Darcy's rise to the captaincy at Collingwood.
