Adam Selwood entered the AFL via pick 53 in the 2002 National Draft, the first of the four Selwood brothers to reach the elite level alongside his twin, Troy. After biding his time in the WAFL, he established himself as a fixture in the West Coast side by 2005, evolving into a reliable utility who could operate in defence or through the midfield. He became best known for his disciplined tagging roles, where his endurance and concentration allowed him to shut down dangerous opponents while still winning his own ball. This selfless approach made him a critical component of the Eagles' acclaimed mid-2000s engine room, playing a pivotal part in the 2006 premiership triumph.

Beyond his on-field grit, Selwood was a significant cultural leader at the club, eventually serving as vice-captain during a turbulent transitional period following the breakup of the premiership squad. He remained a consistent performer and a mentor to younger teammates until chronic back trouble forced his retirement at the conclusion of the 2013 season. Leaving the game as a West Coast life member, he is remembered as a fiercely competitive clubman who set the standard for the next generation of Eagles midfielders.
