Bio
Recruited from Sandhurst in the Bendigo Football League, Alan Arthur was a productive forward who maintained an impressive strike rate during his brief stint at Essendon. He booted 54 goals in just 30 games across three seasons, providing a reliable avenue to goal for the Dons before returning to the country leagues in 1931. Arthur later established a reputation as an astute tactician, enjoying premiership success as a captain-coach at Dimboola and eventually taking the reins at Norwood in the SANFL. While a solid contributor in his own right, his footballing legacy was further cemented by his son, Graham Arthur, who became a Hawthorn legend and an inaugural inductee into the Australian Football Hall of Fame.
