Family

Born in Hobart but recruited from local amateur side South Surfers, Alan Miller was a key position forward who showed immediate promise upon entering the VFL. Standing at 187cm, he made a blistering start to his career at South Melbourne, booting a haul of five goals in just his third senior game against Geelong at the Lake Oval. Miller proved to be a capable avenue to goal, contributing a career-high 21 majors during the 1950 season, though his time at the top level concluded after four years and 36 games. His connection to the club extended well beyond his playing days, as his son Greg Miller later donned the red and white in the 1970s before becoming one of the game's most prominent football administrators.
