The son of former Swan Allan Miller, Greg Miller arrived at the Lake Oval via the Richmond thirds after originally hailing from East Burwood. A key defender who often manned the last line of defence, Miller was tasked with quelling the VFL’s glamour full-forwards of the 1970s, establishing himself as a reliable full-back when fit. However, his on-field career was severely hampered by recurring knee injuries, which restricted him to sporadic appearances after his debut season and eventually forced his premature retirement in 1976 at just 23 years of age. While his playing tally remained modest at 52 games, Miller’s influence on the game proved profound post-retirement; he transitioned into a high-profile administrative career, playing a pivotal role in the club's relocation to Sydney before becoming the architect of North Melbourne’s dominance in the 1990s.
