Family

Recruited from local club East Sandringham, Allan "Yabby" Davis etched his name into St Kilda folklore as the youngest member of the 1966 premiership side, taking the field just days shy of his 18th birthday. A creative and deceptive half-forward, Davis was renowned for his ability to kick goals from impossible angles and his surprising aerial strength for a player standing only 180cm. Despite a "laconic" style that sometimes frustrated the coaching staff—most famously illustrated when he was caught eating a Violet Crumble on the bench during a game—he was a consistent match-winner, topping the Saints' goalkicking in both 1971 and 1973.

After 173 games at Moorabbin, Davis became a central figure in one of the decade's high-profile trade deals, moving to Melbourne in 1976 to facilitate the return of Carl Ditterich to St Kilda. He provided solid service at the Demons and later Essendon as an experienced forward before crossing to Collingwood in 1980, reuniting with coach Tom Hafey. Although his time at Victoria Park was brief, it allowed the boyhood Magpies supporter to finish his career at the club he supported growing up, retiring with exactly 250 VFL games to his name.
