Bio
Recruited from South Adelaide as a mature-age prospect, Alwyn Davey joined Essendon via pick 36 in the 2006 National Draft, following in the footsteps of his younger brother Aaron who was already lighting up the MCG for Melbourne. Davey made an instant impression in his debut 2007 season, injecting blistering speed and manic tackling pressure into the Bombers' forward line. His ability to run down opponents earned him the AFL Army Award in his first year, establishing him as a premier defensive forward who could also hit the scoreboard with instinctive crumbing goals.
Despite his explosive start, Davey's career was often hampered by injuries, including a broken arm that cut short his impressive rookie campaign and persistent soft-tissue setbacks in later years. He fought back repeatedly to hold his spot in the senior side, eventually reaching the 100-game milestone in the final round of 2013 shortly before his delisting. Remembered fondly by the Essendon faithful for his chase-down tackles and excitement factor, his name remains prominent at Tullamarine with his twin sons, Alwyn Jr. and Jayden, drafted to the club under the father-son rule in 2022.
