Family

Recruited from Xavier College, Andrew Gowers established himself as a prototype modern wingman at Hawthorn in the late 1980s. Tall, athletic, and possessing a strong overhead mark, he was a vital component of the Hawks' 1991 Premiership side, often using his height and run to link the backline with attack. After seven seasons at Glenferrie, Gowers headed north to join the Brisbane Bears in 1995, where his finals experience and poise proved valuable for the emerging interstate outfit. He played through the club's transition into the Brisbane Lions, featuring in the inaugural merged side before retiring at the end of the 1999 season.

Gowers has since carved out a significant off-field legacy at Hawthorn, returning to the club in key administrative roles. He served as Football Director during the historic "three-peat" era between 2013 and 2017, overseeing one of the most successful periods in the club's history. His commitment to the brown and gold culminated in his election as President of the Hawthorn Football Club in late 2022, where he was tasked with unifying the membership and guiding the club through a new strategic phase. He is also part of a three-generation AFL family, with his father Trevor playing for Richmond and his son Billy later lining up for the Western Bulldogs.
