Honours

  • Mark of the Year2011

Recruited by Richmond with pick 41 in the 2000 National Draft, Andrew Krakouer entered the league carrying the expectation associated with his famous surname as the son of North Melbourne champion Jim Krakouer. A lively small forward with natural flair and evasive skills, he played over 100 games for the Tigers but often battled for consistency amidst a turbulent era for the club. His career appeared to be over after the 2007 season when he was delisted and subsequently served a prison sentence for assault, a hiatus that removed him from the AFL system entirely for three years.

Krakouer's return to the elite level remains one of football's distinct redemption narratives. After a spectacular 2010 season in the WAFL with Swan Districts, where he claimed the Sandover Medal and booted the match-winning goal in the Grand Final, he was drafted by Collingwood. Reinventing himself as a mature-age impact player, he added significant class and goal sense to the Magpies' forward line, famously taking the 2011 Mark of the Year against Carlton. He played 33 games in black and white before being delisted in 2013, leaving the game remembered for his resilience and silky usage.
