  • Goal of the Year1986

Recruited from Claremont in the WAFL, Phil Krakouer arrived at North Melbourne in 1982 alongside his brother Jim, forming one of the most electric and intuitive partnerships in VFL/AFL history. While Jim was often the hard-nosed ball-winner in the packs, Phil was the silky finisher, a crafty half-forward with a deadly left boot and innate goal sense. The brothers possessed an uncanny "telepathy" on the field, frequently spotting one another in heavy traffic to set up scoring chains that left opposition defenders bewildered. Phil was a consistent scoreboard threat throughout the 1980s, topping the Kangaroos' goalkicking list in 1983, 1985, and 1987, and played a pivotal role in the club's consistent finals appearances during the decade.

After 141 games and eight seasons at Arden Street, Krakouer moved to Footscray (now the Western Bulldogs) for the 1990 season. He spent two years at the Western Oval providing veteran experience, though injuries and form limited him to just seven senior appearances. He completed his time in the AFL system with a final move to Sydney in 1992, though he did not add to his career game tally with the Swans. Despite a quiet finish to his playing days, Krakouer remains an iconic figure at North Melbourne, celebrated for the "Krakouer Magic" that he and his brother brought to the national stage.
