Bio
Recruited from the Claremont Tigers, Andrew McGovern began his AFL career with Sydney in 1992 but managed only 20 games over two seasons before returning to the WAFL. His top-tier career was revived when he was signed by the newly established Fremantle Dockers, becoming a member of their inaugural 1995 squad. A disciplined and reliable defender often tasked with tagging roles, McGovern became a mainstay in the Dockers' backline during the club's difficult foundation years. He retired in 1999 after adding 63 games to his tally in purple, though his name remains prominent in the football landscape as the father of key position stars Jeremy and Mitch McGovern.
