Family

Selected by Sydney with the second overall pick in the 1994 National Draft, Anthony Rocca began his career as a prodigious talent for the Swans before the pull of family drew him back to Victoria. After just two seasons in the Harbour City, he requested a trade to Collingwood to play alongside his older brother, Saverio, eventually taking over the mantle as the club's primary spearhead following his brother's departure. A hulking physical presence, Rocca was renowned for his vice-like hands, ability to pinch-hit in the ruck, and a thumping right boot that made him a constant threat from outside fifty metres.

He became a spiritual leader during the Magpies' resurgence under Mick Malthouse, playing a massive role in the 2002 Grand Final where his performance was marred only by a controversial goal umpiring decision. His importance to the side was underscored the following year when a suspension for striking in the Preliminary Final forced him to miss the 2003 decider, a loss widely attributed to the structural hole his absence created. Battling chronic ankle and knee issues in his twilight years, Rocca retired in 2009 as a Collingwood life member and one of the most recognizable figures of his generation.
