Bio
Saverio Rocca established himself as one of the premier full-forwards of the 1990s, utilising his imposing frame and booming right boot to dominate the goalface for Collingwood. Renowned for his contested marking and the ability to convert set shots from well outside the fifty-metre arc—often unleashing a signature torpedo punt—he carried the Magpies' forward line for much of the decade, eventually joined by his younger brother Anthony. Despite leading the club's goalkicking seven times, Rocca was controversially delisted by incoming coach Mick Malthouse following the 2000 season, a move that shocked the supporter base given his standing at Victoria Park.
North Melbourne offered Rocca a lifeline, where he enjoyed a remarkable career renaissance. At Arden Street, he proved he still had plenty to offer, leading the Kangaroos' goalkicking in three separate seasons and passing the 700-goal milestone. While a premiership medallion eluded him during his 257-game career, he retired in 2006 as the 13th highest goalkicker in VFL/AFL history. His extraordinary kicking power allowed him to transition successfully to American sport, where he enjoyed a long post-football stint as a punter in the NFL.
