Bio
Recruited from Gippsland Power and the son of former Richmond player Graham Robbins, Ben Robbins had to wait for his opportunity at the elite level, spending two seasons on West Coast’s list without a senior debut. A trade to the Brisbane Bears finally launched his career, though he often found himself on the fringe of the Lions’ star-studded midfield during their rise to power. His time in Queensland culminated in a bittersweet 2001 season where he played 11 senior games but missed the Grand Final side, instead captaining the reserves to a premiership and winning the Joe Grant Medal as best on ground. Robbins eventually found a regular spot at North Melbourne, where he reinvented himself as a reliable tagger and ball-winner, playing every game in his debut season for the Roos and carving out a reputation as a determined competitor who made the most of his second chance.
