Stats
Bio
Recruited from Bunyip in Gippsland via a brief stint in the North Melbourne reserves, Bernie Anderson was a solid 188cm utility who could operate in key positions or as a relief ruckman. He joined his brother Noel at Punt Road midway through the 1959 season, where his heavy 96kg frame offered a physical presence in the contest. Despite his size, Anderson struggled to break into the senior side permanently, managing just three VFL appearances and two goals while playing 22 games for the reserves. A schoolteacher by profession, he left the league after the 1960 season and forged a prolific career as a captain-coach in country football, leading sides including Drouin, Cobram, and Wagga Tigers.
