Family

Arriving at Fitzroy from Albert Park Juniors in 1898, Bill Dalton wasted little time establishing himself in the VFL, slotting into the side just as the Maroons were entering their golden era. A durable half-forward flanker who prioritised team play over individual goal-kicking, he became a fixture in the lineup during the club’s most successful early period. Dalton played a crucial role in securing Fitzroy's first VFL flag in 1898 and backed it up the following year as part of the 1899 premiership team, featuring in both Grand Final victories. He remained a consistent contributor at Brunswick Street for five seasons, playing his part in a dominant era alongside namesake (but unrelated) teammate Jack Dalton, before finishing his career in 1902 as a dual premiership player.
