Bio
Standing at a towering 191cm, Bill Ford was a giant of his era who took a scenic route to establishing himself as a VFL regular. Originally recruited from Tallygaroopna in the Goulburn Valley, he made a solitary appearance for Richmond in 1927, booting a goal on debut before falling out of the side. Rather than fading away, Ford spent the prime of his footballing life in the VFA with Camberwell, where he developed into a formidable ruckman and forward target. He returned to the league level seven years later as a mature-age recruit for Hawthorn, finally finding stability as a 28-year-old. Ford used his considerable height advantage to shoulder the ruck duties for the Mayblooms while proving to be a dangerous option in attack, consistently hitting the scoreboard during his four-season stint at Glenferrie Oval.
