Bio
Recruited from Mentone, Bill Gleeson was a rover who played a brief but notable hand in St Kilda’s history during the mid-1950s. Standing at just 173cm, he was a nimble small man who knew how to find the goals, booting 11 majors across his 15 senior appearances. He arrived at the Junction Oval during a tumultuous period for the club and managed to hold his spot during the famous "Killigrew clean-out" of 1956, where new coach Alan Killigrew sacked the vast majority of the playing list to rebuild the culture. While his own VFL career was short-lived, Gleeson’s connection to the Saints endures through his grandson, two-time All-Australian and Trevor Barker Award winner Jack Sinclair, who grew up supporting the club because of Bill's time in the red, white and black.
