Stats
Bio
Recruited from Brunswick, Bill "Snowy" McNamara was a consistent wingman who played through Carlton's difficult formative years in the VFL before the club's ascent to power. While he managed 69 games in the Navy Blue, his most vital contribution came during the tumultuous 1903-04 period, where he was a key signatory to the player petition that successfully demanded the reinstatement of reformist coach Jack Worrall following a boardroom coup. Despite this loyalty to the architect of Carlton's success, McNamara fell victim to the rising standards at Princes Park, losing his place in the side just prior to the 1904 finals and ultimately missing out on the club's hat-trick of premierships that followed. He remained a fixture in the league post-retirement, swapping the guernsey for whites to officiate more than 100 matches as a VFL boundary and field umpire.
