Bio
Selected by St Kilda with pick 19 in the 2013 National Draft, Blake Acres arrived from West Perth as a rangy utility with high potential. His initial tenure at Moorabbin was marked by glimpses of talent rather than sustained dominance, as he battled injuries and inconsistent form while being shuffled between inside midfield, flank, and wing roles over six seasons. In late 2019, he returned to his home state as a key component of the high-profile trade that sent Bradley Hill to the Saints. While his start at the Dockers was delayed by injury, Acres eventually carved out a definitive niche on the wing, enjoying a breakout 2022 campaign that highlighted his endurance and ability to impact contests.
Despite his strong form, a disparity in contract valuations led to a move to Carlton ahead of the 2023 season. Since arriving at Princes Park, Acres has played the most consistent football of his career, providing elite two-way running and structural discipline that the Blues had previously lacked. He quickly endeared himself to supporters with his defensive desperation—often acting as a goal-line saviour—and his capacity for clutch moments in close finishes. Now firmly established as a senior figure, he serves as a vital connecting link in Carlton's transition game, balancing outside drive with defensive accountability.
