Bio
Hailing from the Burnie Hawks in Tasmania, Brendon Gale was selected by Richmond with pick 27 in the 1987 National Draft, extending a family connection to the club that began with his grandfather, Jack. Playing alongside his brother Michael for much of his tenure, Gale established himself as a mobile and imposing big man capable of dominating in the ruck or holding down a key position in the forward line. His strong contested marking and reliable set shot made him a genuine dual threat, allowing him to drift forward and kick crucial goals when not battling in the centre square.
A stalwart of the Tigers throughout the 1990s, Gale remained a loyal one-club player across 12 seasons, providing vital on-field leadership as vice-captain during a largely lean competitive era for the club. His physical resilience and consistency saw him reach the 244-game milestone before his retirement in 2001, cementing his status as one of Richmond's most respected figures. His legacy at Punt Road eventually transcended his playing days, as he returned to serve as a transformational CEO who oversaw a premiership dynasty before departing to lead the Tasmania Football Club.
