Stats
Bio
Recruited from St Josephs Geelong and developed through the Richmond Thirds, Brian Boland was a versatile utility who operated primarily in the back pocket or through the centre. He was a serviceable contributor for the Tigers but often found himself on the fringe of the senior 18, starting on the bench as the 19th or 20th man in more than a quarter of his games. After featuring in Richmond's 1954 Reserves premiership side, he crossed to Hawthorn for a brief six-game stint before finding greater individual success in the VFA with Sandringham, where he captained the Zebras and won a Best and Fairest. His sporting legacy extended well beyond his own career, with his son Glenn playing VFL football in the 1980s and his grandson, Scott Boland, becoming an Australian Test cricketer.
