Family

Recruited from local outfit Abbotsford where he was a prolific full-forward, Andrew was reinvented by Jock McHale as a specialist winger to capitalise on his blistering speed. He quickly established himself as a key component of the "Machine" era, renowned for his immaculate centre-parted hair and ability to execute the stab pass at full tilt. A dual premiership player in 1928 and 1930, he missed the 1929 flag due to injury and retired young to join the committee, only to make a cameo return in 1934 as a rare "playing Vice-President" to cover squad shortages. While his playing days were distinguished, his status as a giant of the game was secured off the field; known as "Mr Football," he served as the ANFC's long-standing Field Director, authoring the code's definitive coaching manuals and pioneering its promotion internationally and interstate.
