Bio
Recruited from Parkdale, George Andrew arrived at the Junction Oval with a notable football pedigree as the nephew of Collingwood premiership star and media personality Bruce Andrew. He made an immediate impression in the St Kilda forward line during the 1938 season, displaying a natural eye for the big sticks to finish with 17 goals from just nine senior appearances. Despite this productive strike rate of nearly two goals a game, his VFL playing career was confined to that single season. Andrew ultimately established his most enduring legacy off the field, becoming a household name in the 1950s as a pioneering radio commentator for 3DB and later 3UZ, where he called the footy alongside broadcasting icons like Ron Casey.
