Bio
Recruited to Melbourne under the father-son rule in the 2003 National Draft, Chris Johnson arrived with the burden of expectation associated with his father, Demons best-and-fairest winner Alan Johnson. A rebounding defender with a neat left foot, he was tasked with providing drive from the backline, relying on his disposal efficiency to set up attacks. Despite showing glimpses of his potential, Johnson struggled to command a permanent spot in Melbourne's best 22 over five seasons, often oscillating between senior selection and the VFL. Seeking greater opportunities, he was traded to Carlton at the end of 2008, but he found it difficult to break into the Blues' defensive rotation consistently. Johnson added just 15 games to his tally across two seasons at Princes Park before being delisted in 2010, concluding his career as a fringe player who possessed elite kicking skills but lacked the continuity to become a league staple.
