Bio
Recruited from East Fremantle, Chris Waterman became an integral utility player for the West Coast Eagles during the club's dominant era in the 1990s. Making his debut in 1988, he quickly established a reputation as a footballer with a high football IQ and clean disposal, capable of playing roles across half-back, the wing, or the forward flank. While often overshadowed by the high-flying stars of the Eagles' midfield and forward line, Waterman's consistency and defensive discipline made him a favourite of coach Mick Malthouse, ensuring he was a permanent fixture in the side during their peak years.
Waterman's reliability was rewarded with dual premiership success, playing key roles in both the 1992 and 1994 flag-winning sides. He represented Western Australia in State of Origin football and remained a senior leader at the club until his retirement in 1999. His connection to West Coast extended well beyond his playing days, with the Waterman name continuing at the club through his sons, Alec and Jake, who were both drafted to the Eagles as father-son selections.
