Bio
Recruited to the Brisbane Lions via the 2009 Rookie Draft as a Queensland zone selection, Claye Beams entered the AFL system as the younger brother of Collingwood premiership star Dayne. A talented junior cricketer who switched his focus to football relatively late, Beams developed into a versatile utility capable of playing off half-back or rotating through the midfield. He was best known for his penetrating right-foot kick which provided the Lions with deep drive, but his nine-year tenure was heavily impacted by injuries and inconsistent form. Despite the high-profile arrival of his brother Dayne at the club in 2015, Claye struggled to cement a permanent position in the senior side, managing just 54 appearances before being delisted at the conclusion of the 2018 season.
