Bio
Drafted from Southport with pick 29 in the 2008 National Draft, Dayne Beams made an immediate impact at Collingwood, playing a key role in the club's 2010 premiership triumph as a dynamic, goal-kicking midfielder. Renowned for his clean hands in traffic, elite stoppage craft and ability to hit the scoreboard, he rapidly ascended to the competition's upper echelon, culminating in a stellar 2012 season where he earned All-Australian honours and the Copeland Trophy.
Following the 2014 season, Beams requested a trade to the Brisbane Lions on compassionate grounds to be closer to his ailing father, a high-profile move that saw Jack Crisp sent the other way. Despite the Lions' on-field struggles during this period, Beams maintained his elite output, claiming the Merrett-Murray Medal in 2015 and eventually serving as club captain. In a surprise twist, he was traded back to Collingwood at the end of 2018, but his second stint at the club was severely restricted by hip injuries and well-documented mental health battles. He stepped away from the game indefinitely in late 2019 and retired the following year, concluding his career as a highly skilled clearance specialist who delivered his best football in black and white.
