A prolific ball-winner with elite speed and a damaging left foot, he quickly adapted to the tempo of senior football, often utilised across half-back where his line-breaking run and precision kicking became essential for launching attacking chains. With an ability to find space and execute under pressure, McKercher established himself early in his career as a composed distributor and a foundational piece of the Kangaroos' developing core.
