Bio
The son of former Melbourne and Glenelg player Peter Maynard and older brother of Collingwood premiership defender Brayden, Corey Maynard arrived at the Demons via an unconventional pathway as a Category B rookie. A former professional basketballer who played college hoops in the United States and stints in the NBL with Cairns and Townsville, Maynard swapped codes in 2016 and quickly established himself as a hard-nosed inside midfielder for the Casey Demons in the VFL. He earned his AFL debut in Round 20, 2017 against GWS, notably kicking a goal with his first kick in a tough loss. While he possessed the contested ball-winning ability and physical aggression characteristic of his family name, persistent injury setbacks prevented him from securing a regular spot in the senior side. After just two career games, a degenerative hip condition forced him to announce his retirement midway through the 2019 season.
