Bio
A mobile key forward recruited from the WAFL, Craig Starcevich arrived at Collingwood in 1987 with a burgeoning reputation, having already won the F.D. Book Medal as East Perth’s best and fairest. He made an immediate impact at Victoria Park, winning the Harry Collier Trophy as the Magpies' best first-year player. While often used as a utility or second tall, his place in club folklore was sealed during the 1990 finals series. Starcevich played a pivotal role in the drought-breaking Grand Final win over Essendon, providing a dangerous target in attack before his day was ended early by a ferocious hit from Terry Daniher.
Starcevich’s playing career concluded with a move north, where he became a central figure in one of the league's most significant trade deals. At the end of 1993, he was packaged with Troy Lehmann and draft picks to the Brisbane Bears in exchange for future Brownlow Medallist Nathan Buckley. After two seasons with the Bears, Starcevich retired and transitioned into a highly successful off-field career. He served as the high-performance manager during the Lions' legendary "three-peat" era in the early 2000s and later cemented a unique legacy as the inaugural premiership-winning coach of the Brisbane Lions' AFLW side.
