Bio
Recruited from the North Ballarat Rebels with pick 67 in the 2014 National Draft, Dan Butler spent two seasons developing in the VFL before breaking into the Richmond side in 2017. He immediately became a pivotal figure in the Tigers' high-pressure small forward setup, using his blistering speed and elite tackling to help secure the club's drought-breaking premiership that season. Despite this early success, Richmond's exceptional depth in the small forward role saw Butler squeezed out of the senior rotation by 2019, and after missing out on the club's second flag of the era, he requested a trade to St Kilda in search of regular senior opportunities.
The move to Moorabbin revitalised Butler's career, as he delivered an outstanding debut season for the Saints in 2020 that resulted in selection in the All-Australian squad and a runner-up finish in the best and fairest. A dangerous small forward capable of punishing defences on the turnover and finishing cleanly around goal, Butler has remained a consistent contributor for St Kilda. Now an experienced campaigner with over 150 games to his name, he serves as a veteran leader inside the forward 50, setting the standard for defensive pressure while mentoring the club's next generation of crumbing forwards.
