Bio
Dane Rampe stands as one of the great success stories of the rookie draft system, carving out a distinguished career after being overlooked by recruiters as a teenager. A local Sydney product, Rampe spent time in the VFL with Williamstown to push his case before returning home to dominate the Sydney AFL competition, eventually winning the Phelan Medal in 2012. His persistence was rewarded when the Swans selected him in the 2013 Rookie Draft, and he wasted little time cementing his spot in the senior side. An athletic and versatile defender, Rampe became renowned for his exceptional closing speed and capacity to man key forwards despite often conceding height, while also providing aggressive run and intercept marking from the back half.
His standing at the club was solidified through his elevation to co-captain in 2019, a role he held for several seasons during a significant transitional period for the Swans. That same year, he claimed the Bob Skilton Medal as the club's best and fairest, underlining his consistency and importance to the defensive structure. An All-Australian in 2016, Rampe developed a reputation as a fiercely competitive leader who marshalled the backline with intensity. Now a revered veteran, he remains a key pillar in Sydney's defence, tasked with mentoring the next generation while continuing to shut down dangerous opposition forwards.
