Bio
Recruited from West Perth with pick 14 in the 1987 National Draft, Darren Bewick established himself as a dangerous rover and small forward known for his blistering pace and uncanny goal sense. Affectionately known as 'Boris', he became a central figure in Kevin Sheedy's sides of the 1990s, using his speed to break lines through the midfield before transitioning into a potent forward pocket option. His career highlight came during the 1993 season where he played a pivotal role in the Baby Bombers' premiership victory, a year that also saw him boot a career-high nine goals in a match against Geelong.
Although a consistent match-winner, Bewick's career was frequently interrupted by serious knee injuries, including two reconstructions that forced him to modify his game as his trademark acceleration waned. He showed significant resilience to return to senior football, playing a role in Essendon's record-breaking 2000 season, but was ultimately squeezed out of the best 22 prior to the finals campaign. He retired at the end of that year as a one-club player and Life Member, missing out on a second premiership medallion but securing his legacy as one of the club's most prolific goal-kicking midfielders.
