Recruited from South Adelaide in the SANFL, Darren Harris was a versatile tall who arrived at North Melbourne in 1986. Standing 193cm, he was primarily deployed as a ruckman or key forward, capable of providing a contest in the air and offering structural flexibility for the Kangaroos. His most consistent football came during the late 1980s, though he largely operated as a depth player who battled to cement a permanent position in the senior side over his six seasons at Arden Street. While his career was relatively modest, he holds the distinction of playing alongside his younger brother Brenton in 1988 and is known in contemporary sport as the father of Olympic swimming gold medallist Meg Harris.
