The son of Essendon premiership captain Alick Dick, Dave Dick arrived in the VFL with a reputation as a prolific spearhead after booting a century of goals for Hampton Rovers in 1920. His league career began with a solitary appearance for St Kilda in 1921, but after returning to the amateurs, he was granted a second chance at his father’s club four years later. Dick immediately showed his potential by snagging six goals against Carlton in just his second game for the Bombers, though he struggled to maintain that form and eventually finished his VFL tenure with a brief stint at Footscray. A traditional full-forward who knew where the goals were, he later continued his career with Sandringham in the VFA.
