Bio
Hailing from one of the game's most distinguished footballing families, David Cordner arrived at Melbourne as the son of former captain Denis Cordner, representing the third generation of the clan to wear the red and blue. A tall utility best suited to the forward line, he possessed a strong pair of hands and displayed promising goal-kicking ability, yet he battled to cement a permanent spot in the senior side throughout the club's erratic mid-1980s era. Despite enjoying his most consistent season in 1987, he missed selection for the finals campaign and subsequently transferred to the Sydney Swans for the 1988 season in search of greater opportunity. However, his stint interstate was short-lived, yielding just five appearances before his VFL career concluded, leaving him as a serviceable contributor to a storied family legacy.
