Bio
The eldest of the renowned Cordner brothers, Ted joined Melbourne from University Blacks and made an immediate impact, playing in the 1941 premiership side in his debut season. A powerful defender known for his physical strength and booming kick, he anchored the Demon backline before his football was interrupted by World War II, during which he served as a naval doctor aboard HMAS Vendetta. He returned to the field in 1946 to help steer the club to another Grand Final, though they ultimately fell to Essendon, before hanging up the boots to focus on his medical profession at the Royal Children’s Hospital. While his VFL career was relatively short, he laid the foundation for a famous family dynasty that would see his younger brothers Don, Denis, and John all represent the club with distinction.
