Bio
Recruited from Traralgon, David Flintoff initially struggled to break into a star-studded Hawthorn lineup during the club's dominant 1980s era, managing just a handful of senior appearances while featuring in the 1985 reserves premiership. After a stint in the VFA with Preston, he was thrown a lifeline by Melbourne with pick 48 in the 1987 National Draft, where he found greater opportunity as a pacy rover and half-forward. His most productive campaign came in 1988 when he played 16 games and kicked 14 goals, though he unfortunately missed selection for the Grand Final side that faced his former club. Despite showing promise as a goal-kicking small man, Flintoff's time at the top level remained sporadic, and he concluded his VFL/AFL career in 1991 after four seasons with the Demons.
